Necessary Procedures for Japanese Government Scholarship Students
Scholarships (grant) will be paid to foreign students during their
study in Japan. However, when students are out of Japan from first to
the last days of the month, no scholarship will be paid for that
month.
They should mind that if they are absent from the university
temporarily or for a long time in the duration, no scholarship will be
paid.
The amount of scholarships (grant) are as follows; (as of April 1996)
Undergraduate Students | per month | 142,500 |
Research Students | per month | 185,500 |
In-service Training Teachers | per month | 185,500 |
1.Procedures in case Students Leave Japan Temporally
Students must submit a written report on their temporary leave to the
Foreign Student Service Section in the Student Division.
They should contact the office immediately when they have returned to
Japan.
2. Procedures for Receiving Scholarships (grant)
Students must submit the documents which are mentioned below to the
Foreign Student Service Section in the Student Division.
- A written claim for the scholarship (they must submit for every month)
- A written request for transfer of the scholarship to the bank account
(they must submit at the time of regulation )
3. Extension of Grant
There may be cases in which,by application,the initial period of stay
covered by Japanese government scholarships is extended. Students who
wish to have their period of grant extended should consult with the
clerks in their respective faculty Offices or in the Foreign Student
Service Section in the Student Division two to three months before the
initial period of stay ends. But, In-service training teachers are
excluded from the benefit of extension.
4. Travel for Research - Related Purposes
When students make a trip in Japan for purposes related to their
research, a certain amount of travel expenses will be supplied by the
government. Those who wish to have travel expenses supplied should
consult with the clerks in their respective faculty offices or in the
Foreign Student Service Section in the Student Division in advance.
5. Partial Assistance to housing
When Japanese government scholarship grantee rent a privately owned
house or apartment, they will be provided with part of the rent by the
Association of International Education, Japan.
Students who would like to have this assistance provided should
consult with the clerks in the Foreign Student Service Section in
Student Division. When they make their application, students will be
requested to submit the following documents:
- Application for housing assistance
- A copy of the contract with the owner of the house or apartment,
or some document that certifies the conclusion of the contract
- A written claim for housing assistance (for every month)
The amount of housing assistance in 1995 is 9,000 yen per month, and
it will be paid monthly by the clerk in the Foreign Student Service
Section in the Student division.
When students have moved to a new residence, they should report it
promptly to their respective faculty offices or the Foreign Student
Service Section in the Student Division.
6. Travel Expenses from Japan
When the period of their stay comes to an end and they leave Japan
during the appointed period, Japanese government scholarship students
will be given an air ticket from the nearest airport to the airport
nearest to their homes. They will not be given this ticket if they
stay in Japan beyond the period of their stay or if they return home
before the period of their stay ends. They cannot apply it after the
period of their stay ends. For details, they should consult with their
academic advisors or the clerks in their respective faculty offices or
in the Foreign Student Service Section in the Student Division.
