Rules

The necessary matters of study and research for foreign students are provided by Nara Womens' University School Regulations, Nara Womens' Graduate School Regulations and each faculty regulations. Students in the university (including irregular students of research students, special research students, auditors, special auditors, subject students.) should know these regulations on study.

These regulations are carried in student handbook, so they should read,understand and obey them.

Study

1. Teachers in charge of Foreign Students

Teachers in charge of Foreign Students as advisors for whole foreign students are located in the Faculty of Letters (foreign students can ask who they are at the Faculty Office), foreign student should consult without reserve about study and anything else.

2. Academic Advisors

Academic advisors guide and advise foreign students about the problems on study, research and others.

3 Tutorial System

This is a system designed to help foreign students new in Japan to accustom themselves to new surroundings as quickly as possible. If foreign students wish, they will be provided with Japanese students as their tutors who can give assistance in various matters of study and daily life.

The students who would like to have a tutor provided should consult their academic advisors, the clerks in their respective faculty offices and the Foreign Student Service Section in the Student Division.

Students eligible for this system and duration of tutor-ship are mentioned next.

undergraduate students: two years starting from the time of admission graduate students and research students: one year starting from the time of arrival at Japan.

4. Excursions

Several excursions are scheduled as part of the educational program for foreign students. These excursions are designed to promote friendship amongst foreign students and to acquaint them with Japan's history, geography, industry, etc.

Details concerning dates and destinations will be announced in advance by the Foreign Student Service Section i n the Student Division.

5. Extracurricular Lectures

These are usually given in the university holidays (in the days on which lessons aren't scheduled), with the aim at improving their ability in Japanese and basic academic skills.

For details,they should ask academic advisors, the clerks in their respective faculty offices and the Foreign Student Service Section in the Student Division.

6. Home Stays in Japanese Family

These are designed to help them understand Japan and Japanese through Japanese family life by staying at Japanese home, and experiencing Japanese manners and customs.

7. Get-Together Held by the President

These are designed to promote friendship amongst foreign students, teachers, staffs, tutors in the university, and the outer groups which support foreign students variously. Details will be announced in advance.

8. Lecture of Japanese

In each faculty, subjects of Japanese are included.

In case foreign undergraduate students earn the credits for Japanese and related subjects, they can substitute some of them with the necessary subjects for graduation in foreign language courses. If the foreign students other than undergraduate students would like to take these subjects, they should consult with the clerks in their respective faculty offices or teachers in charge of foreign students. I n this case, they cannot earn the credits.

Foreign Student Affairs Offices

The Foreign student service section in the student division is charge of affairs related to foreign students.

They handle matters such as registration, application for scholarships and other allowances, events designed for foreign students, issuance of certifications and other documents, etc. The clerks there, besides taking care of these matters, are always ready to talk about various problems which foreign students may face in their study and daily life. Students can consult with these officers freely any time they have problems.

Also in case foreign students meet with an accident or happen to know it, they should contact with academic advisors, the clerks in the Foreign Student Service Section in the Student Division, and in the faculty offices.

Office hours are from 8:30a.m. to 12a.m. and from 1p.m. to 5p.m. on Monday through Friday (except national holidays).
