Rokugi (Six Principles)

Height, 28cm., total length 130cm.; blended paper; mounted as single hand scroll. The colophon reads "9th day of the 3th month of Ouei 35, this scroll was transmitted due to the wishes of Komparu Taiyu, Zea[mi] Kaou monogram)." This work was conveyed from Zeami to Zenchiku, when Zeami was 66 years of age and Zenchiku, 24. The six principles of poetic from, found in the Preface to the Kokinwakashuu, the indirect style, 風 fuu; the enumerative style, 賦 fu; the figurative style, 比 hi; the metaphorical style. 興 kou; the correct style 雅 ga; the eulogistic style, 頌 shou, are applied to the six modes of noh performance, e.g. myoukahuu 妙花風, etc. |
