Academic Information Center
In 2014, the Library and the Computing and Networking Center were unified to the Academic Information Center.
The Center was established to manage the new aspects which surround academic research environment and the diversification of an information environment.
We aim to be the hub which supports the research and leaning activity.
Nara Women’s University holds about 550,000 books and 17,000 periodicals titles, and the center holds about 300,000 books of these.
Furthermore, the center holds the various materials, such as the 100 old materials of Nara Women's Higher Normal School, the educational collection in Meiji era, the electronic Journals, the database and so on.
We are constructing the automated storage and retrieval
system for the increasing storage space. This system will
hold English books and English journals and the Open Stacks
holds Japanese books and Japanese journals.
Additionally, we provide the Learning Commons and the Group Study Room that are the communicative spaces to support student active learning and dynamic research.
The center also provides the high speed information network infrastructure and computing facilities to fulfill the needs of staffs and students.
We maintain the information processing systems and the campus information network.
By implementing the common intra-campus information network, the center supports academic research and information processing activities.

Health Care Center
The
purpose of the Health Care Center is to perform the specialized job of
health maintenance in an integral fashion in order to maintain and
enhance the health of both students and university staff.
Areas of emphasis, starting with the health check-ups in April, include
first-aid treatment and emergency response, referrals to medical
services outside the university, and individual health consultations
with public health nurse and nurses.
Additionally, the Center provides complete support both mentally and
physically throughout a student's enrollment by self-assessment corners.
Environmental Safety Center
The Environmental Safety Center was set up on February 16, 2011.
The aim of the center is to maintain the desirable environment and
safety for educational and research activities at Nara Women's
University.
The Center consists of three sections, the Management Sections for Chemical Substances, Radiations and Biosafety.
Computing and Networking Center
The
Information Processing Center was established on April 1, 1988 for the
purpose of delivering effective information processing for academic
research and education. The center was renewed and renamed as The
Computing and Networking Center to provide the high-speed information
network infrastructure and computing facilities to fulfill the needs of
staff and students.
The center maintains the information processing systems and the campus
information network. By implementing the common intra-campus
information network, the center supports academic research and
information processing activities.
KYOUSEI Science Center for Life and Nature
The
Center was established on April 1, 2001 and is dedicated to the study
of a scientific discipline termed "KYOUSEI Science",defined as the
study for co-existence of human society and natural environments. The
Center aims to contribute to the environmental problems through
multi-scale scientific research activities from physical chemistry,
molecular biology, ecology, geography and geophysics.
Center for Research of Ancient Culture
This
Center was established on June 24, 2005. Nara was the center of
Japanese civilization during ancient times, and Nara Women's University
can use its local connections to examine Japan's ancient history and
civilization from an East Asian perspective, including the study of
history, literature and language and related interdisciplinary study
programs.
In addition to carrying out its own activities, since fiscal year 2009
this center has taken on the accomplishments of the "21 st Century COE
Program -COE for Research on formation and characteristics of Ancient
Japan", and is widely promoting and releasing interdisciplinary
research on ancient Japan in concert with researchers from the field of
science. Accordingly, greater development can be achieved through
cooperation with the network of domestic and foreign research
institutions and researchers built through COE activities.
Center for Gender and Women's Culture in Asia
Established
on November 25, 2005, this Center is dedicated to the development of
women's higher and further education in the Asian region. The
university is uniquely placed to contribute to this area, as a Japanese
institution situated in Asia and also as a women's university. In
addition to promoting the research of gender issues in Asia, the Center
aims to be the locus of a network of female researchers across Asia.
With regard to researching women's activities and gender issues across
Asia, the Center invites the leading female researchers and scholars in
this field to the university to give lectures, host symposiums and
research conferences. They present their current findings and discuss
problems and issues. Attendees also exchange information and address
the issue of female empowerment.
Center for Research and Development of Education Systems
The
Center undertakes researches on education systems from elementary to
higher education levels as well as promotes research and educational
activities held in cooperation with Nara Women's University
Undergraduate and Graduate Schools and its affiliated kindergarten,
elementary school, and middle school.
The Center conducts research in the following three sections:
Developing Education Systems, Promoting Joint Research and Activities,
and Supporting Teachers and Recurrent Education.
Center for Clinical Psychology
The
Center was established on April 1,2013 and is dedicated to the
practice, the education and the study on clinical psychology. The
Center aims to perform psychological counseling for people in
neighboring areas, train the graduate students for clinical
psychologist and contribute to the development of clinical psychology
by the performing and the training.
International Exchange Center
The
International Exchange Center was set up on February 28 of 2005. The
aim of the center is to promote international exchange at Nara Women's
University by developing international cooperation; promoting
international exchange with universities overseas;and formulating and
implementing measures on the necessary education and guidance for
international students and Japanese students who wish to study abroad.
The center is comprised of the International Exchange Planning Section
and the International Education Section. The former carries out the
planning and implementation of international exchange and promotes
activities based upon academic exchange agreements. The latter offers
education and support to international students and guidance for
Japanese students going abroad.
Social Cooperation Center
The links between Nara Women's University and society are key to the university's
policy, and this center plays a main role in its execution. The Center
was opened on November 25, 2005 in order to bring about closer
integration and cooperation with society. The
Center liaises with industry, academia and government, and consists of
two active sections. The first is the Promotion Section for Cooperation
with
Industry, Academia and Government, which plays host to research forums
and academic symposiums as well as offering counseling related to
research. The second section, the Promotion Section for Cooperation
with the local community, in addition to its other responsibilities,
runs and supervises programs that contribute to the local community.
Center for Education and Research of Lifelong Learning
This
Center was established on May 21 , 1997 and is dedicated to the study
of and research about lifelong learning, as well as involving the
university with the local community.
The Center will survey the promotion of lifelong learning as well as
conduct research and development of lifelong learning programs by
liaising with local lifelong learning organizations and groups.
Memorial Hall
Memorial Hall is the symbol of Nara Women’s University. It was built as
the main hall when the university first opened in 1909. The outside walls
have a very distinctive half-timber style and the roof has a lantern tower
and dormer windows. The ground floor was used as the administrative offices,
and the second floor was used as an auditorium. The administrative offices
were moved to a new building and in 1990 it was decided to preserve the
main building as Memorial Hall. It was renovated in 1994 and on December
27, 1994 it was designated as a National Important Cultural Property together
with the main gate and the porter’s lodge. It is still used, housing exhibition
rooms and an auditorium hall. It is open to the public in spring and fall,
usually April 29 - May 5 and November 1 - November 7.
